Music Trade Review - Music Industry Magazine

Online Library: 1880 - 1933, 1940-1954

The Music Trade Review was published out of New York from 1878 until at least 1956. It apparently suspended publication with the January 1933 issue. Publication was resumed under different management sometime between 1937 and 1940. Our online library contains issues from 1880 to 1933, and from 1940 to 1954. Additional years are available for review at a number of libraries. Search www.worldcat.org for more information about the holdings of other libraries, or ask your local librarian for assistance.

bay-state-mandolin-01.jpg

"Bay State" Mandolins.

The " Bay State" mandolins are selling freely this season in all styles. The illustration shows new style No. 2 of 1899, with rosewood body, having nineteen strips with white inlay between each strip. The sound-holes and edges are inlaid with fancy colored wood inlay. The guard plate is of imitation tortoise shell. The neck is of mahogany with ebony veneered head. The " Bay State " mandolins are finding especial favor in the eyes of professionals, their indorsers including Prof. George Barker, of Boston, I. W. Niles, Miss Amelia Luigi and many other well-known artists of high rank.

Washburn Mandolins Triumph

ON THE PACIFIC COAST SOME - GREAT CONCERTS AT WHICH THEY WILL BE PLAYED.

We are in receipt of some very attractive printed matter issued by Kohler & Chase announcing two concerts to be given in San Francisco by Valentine Abt the great mandolinist. Abt plays the Washburn mandolin exclusively, and produces musical effects upon his chosen instrument far surpassing even the finest mandolin solos heard heretofore. An enormous success is predicted for these Abt concerts. One hundred local players are to assist. The popularity of the Washburn guitars, mandolins and banjos upon the Pacific Slope is very great. The beautiful Cremona tone of the new model Washburn mandolin has been nowhere more thoroughly appreciated than in Californian music circles.
