Music Trade Review - Music Industry Magazine

Online Library: 1880 - 1933, 1940-1954

The Music Trade Review was published out of New York from 1878 until at least 1956. It apparently suspended publication with the January 1933 issue. Publication was resumed under different management sometime between 1937 and 1940. Our online library contains issues from 1880 to 1933, and from 1940 to 1954. Additional years are available for review at a number of libraries. Search www.worldcat.org for more information about the holdings of other libraries, or ask your local librarian for assistance.

Aluminium Musical Instruments

Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurden Instrumente wie Mandoline und Gitarre aus Aluminium hergestellt. Hier habe ich verschiedene Dokumente dazu zusammengestellt

During the last years of the 19th century some mandolins and guitars were made from aluminum. I have compiled some documents on this page.

THE HUTCHINS MANUFACTURING CO. HAVE THEIR MANDOLINS READY.

The Hutchins Manufacturing Co., of Springfield, Mass., have now ready a magnificent stock of aluminum mandolins which they are about to bring to the attention of the trade. The company have been at work for some time on these instruments, the chief difficulty being to prepare tools by which the aluminum could be stamped into shape suitable for guitars and mandolins. That they have succeeded is obvious from the magnificent instruments which they are now making.

The points of excellence claimed for the aluminum mandolin are its resonance, its indestructibility and freedom from warping, and its perfect fret work. The latter insures a perfect chord from a perfect octave. Besides the mandolins, the company is to make out of the same material guitars, drums, zithers, mandolins and almost every kind of stringed and wind instruments.

M. P. Conway, the well known dealer of Springfield and Holyoke, Mass., has secured the agency for the Hutchins products and last Saturday they were introduced to the public of Springfield by a concert which was participated in by the Springfield Mandolin and Guitar Club. The aluminum instruments were played and their attractive appearance and superb tone was favorably commented on by all who heard them.
